LIFE HAYA PARTICIPATES IN THE EUROPEAN MEETING ON FOREST RESTORATION IN ROMANIA

The meeting focused on the role of the LIFE programme in restoring European forests, highlighting its contribution to biodiversity, the fight against climate change and the resilience of communities. The sessions were structured around four main themes:

  • Ecological restoration and natural regeneration, with a special focus on primary forest management and large-scale restoration techniques.

  • Forests and climate change, addressing strategies to strengthen the adaptive capacity of forest ecosystems in the face of extreme events.

  • Silvopastoral systems and agroforestry as tools for integrating sustainable agricultural practices with forest management.

  • Socio-economic and financial opportunities, including innovative mechanisms such as payments for ecosystem services and carbon credits.

On behalf of LIFE HAYA, Cesefor staff attended the event, participating in various networking meetings with partners from related projects and presenting the progress made by the initiative. The presentation aroused great interest among those attending, especially with regard to close-to-nature silviculture in beech forests and the promotion of long-life wood products as a carbon sequestration strategy in the construction and renovation of buildings.

The stay proved particularly enriching thanks to the opportunity to see first-hand the importance and extent of Romania’s beech forests, which are a benchmark at European level.

These types of meetings reinforce the transferability and exchange of experiences between LIFE projects, contributing to the creation of synergies to jointly address the challenges of forest restoration in Europe.
