Explorers for a Day at CESEFOR!

Pupils from CEIP Fuente del Rey in Soria discover forest science and sustainability

On June 16, 2025, the Centre for Forestry Services and Promotion and its Industry of Castilla y León (CESEFOR) welcomed a visit from 7- and 8-year-old pupils from Fuente del Rey school in Soria for a fun educational day entitled “Explorers for a Day at CESEFOR!”.

During the visit, the children had the opportunity to learn first-hand what CESEFOR is and how it works to promote sustainable forest management, innovation in the use of wood, and applied research in the forestry sector.

Throughout the morning, the CESEFOR team organised different interactive activities included in the programme: themed activities, a guided tour of the workshops and wood samples, and the “Hands-on Science” workshop, where they were able to observe experiments and learn through play.

One of the highlights of the day was the talk on LIFE projects, especially the LIFE HAYA project, through which the pupils learned about the importance of close-to-nature silviculture. Through a participatory activity, they understood how this forest management model promotes forests that are more resilient to climate change and richer in biodiversity.

The activity ended with a fun “forest surprise” and a group photo to remember a day full of learning, nature, and science.

Through initiatives like this, CESEFOR and the LIFE HAYA project bring forestry knowledge and environmental awareness closer to new generations, encouraging respect for and care of our forests from childhood.
