THE LIFE HAYA PROJECT JOINS OTHER PROJECTS AT THE 9TH SPANISH FORESTRY CONGRESS

The main objective was to address issues such as climate adaptation and sustainable forest management.

As part of the Spanish Forestry Congress held in Gijón, the LIFE Haya (Hardwood For the Home) project was one of the highlights of the exchange session between initiatives focused on climate change adaptation, forest health and the ecological recovery of forest landscapes.

The beech forests of Vaca and Navarre, a key refuge for bat diversity

As part of the Congress, the Life Haya project presented a poster on the activity and diversity of bats in the Basque-Navarre beech forests, a study led by Alejandro Cantero from the Hazi Foundation, a partner organisation in the project. Among the conclusions, it is noteworthy that beech forests offer favourable microclimatic conditions for bats, and that differences in activity and diversity are related to forest structure, humidity and vegetation cover. The study reinforces the importance of conserving these habitats as key refuges for biodiversity.
